Safeguarding Conference Feedback

Please visit the WSCVYS website for feedback - and some useful links - from November's Safeguarding Conference held at the Hawth, Crawley. WSCVYS will shortly be launching a series of Safeguarding surgeries across West Sussex. Please email Isabelle for more details.



Roffey Children Can Do - grant applications invited

Roffey Children Can Do is a grants scheme which gives money to groups of children aged between five and 13 who want to do something positive in their community.  Up to £1,500 is available for each group and should be spent on things that children decide would make most difference to them. 


Applications must come from a group of children aged five - 13 who live in the Roffey area of Horsham. They must benefit children with greater needs and fewer chances and they can't be for activities which promote a particular religion or political aim.


The closing date for applications is Friday 29 January 2010 and decisions will be made on Thursday 18 February 2010.

WSCVYS Training Day
In February we are hosting a training day for VCS organisations. The topics are 'Challenging Diversity' facilitated by NCVYS and 'Hear by Rights' from Participation Works.  17 or 24 February tbc.

Youth Participation
Young people across West Sussex are involved in a wide range of participation opportunities from local Youth Forums, to Youth Cabinet, Youth Councils to being Youth Mayor.  Many young people are involved in these groups & opportunities, making a very important contribution to the decision making process across the County.

West Sussex Youth Service would like to invite your group to send 2/3 representatives to attend a meeting on 12 January 2010   6pm-8pm at the Connexions Shop for Young People, 37 Queens Square, Crawley, RH10 1HA.

Sport Unlimited is a Sport England funding source administered by the Sussex County Sports Partnership that aims to get 'semi-sporty' kids (5-19 years) more active.

Submission deadline for projects running April-August 2010 is 20 January with decisions expected by start of February. Projects involving 11-19 tend to carry higher priority than those aimed at primary. Projects involving 16-19 year olds a particular priority.

Parents with Prospects is a free programme developed for new young parents or parents-to-be to allow them the opportunity to network and share experiences and acquire a certificate in parenting skills.

There is a crèche provided for children and
the course will run from mid January 2010 until mid July 2010 on Thursday mornings  between 10am-2pm. Click here for more information.

The annualRotary Youth Poetry Competition 2010 opens Monday 18 January 2010.  Applications to be submitted by Saturday 27 March 2010.
 
The theme is "People in other lands" . There are three age categories and prizes will be given.  Details and rules are available from Waterstones in Chichester or from www.rotarypoetry.info.

South of England Show 2010
Next year's Show will be held on 10-12 June and the WSCVYS & Youth Service stand will feature an arts element.  We will be looking for groups producing arts projects to be involved and to exhibit at the Show.  More details of this project - and all the other aspects of our Stand - will be published over the coming months.

The fourth round of the Youth Sector Development Fund (YSDF) will focus on supporting the aims of the government's Information, Advice and Guidance Strategy.

Around 25 third sector organisations will receive a mixture of grants and business support, from April 2010 to March 2011.
