Safeguarding Event - Monday 9 November 2009 - The Hawth, Crawley
WSCVYS and the West Sussex Local Safeguarding Children's Board wish to
invite you to a free event focussing on the introduction
of the Vetting and Barring Scheme.
This will have a majorimpact on the recruitment and monitoring practices of people working or
volunteering with children (Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006).

Children and Young People's Workforce
Development Learning Seminar Monday 7 December (venue, times etc TBA)
WSCC's Sara Weech will give an update on the Children and
Young People's Plan. We will undertake the One Children's Workforce
Self
Assessment - the rainbow tool - to generate discussion about
new ways
of working and this will be followed by a series of knowledge cafes and information
points. Likely issues for discussion include the Common Induction Standards training
framework, Aiming High
for Disabled Children, short break standards and more. Please see
future e-bulletins for further information.

WSCVYS would like to introduce a new team member - Daniel Cheesman, the Aiming High for Disabled
Children - Parent Participation Lead for
West Sussex.
Daniel's role is to work
with parents and carers in West Sussex to ensure that their voice is heard as
the Aiming High for Disabled Children agenda is rolled out across the county.

ANTI BULLYING WEEK 16-20 November 2009
This year's theme is Cyberbullying.
The Anti-Bullying
Alliance is hosting several events this year. Please follow the link to find

Big Lottery Reaching Communities Programme free application workshop
This fund continues to support
organisations with projects that require funding to help improve local
communities and the lives of people most in need until 2010. The fund can give
grants of more than £10,000 and up to £500,000, including a maximum of £50,000
for capital grants.
Crawley CVS, in partnership with
Crawley Borough Council and The Big Lottery, wishes to increase successful local
applications to this fund and is proposing a half day workshop in Crawley on
Friday 16 October designed to assist organisations through the
application process while offering guidance on the suitability of any projects
and initiatives interested in applying to the fund.

Mobile Playwork and Education Training
Project (MPETP)
A team of
qualified and experienced playworkers offer support based on informal
observations at settings offering play activities for any age! This service is for staff who
offer play activities in their work setting which can inform best practice and
support their continued professional development.

Night Project returns to Horsham
The Friday Night Project @ Costa returns on Friday 25 September again, providing a safe,
informal meeting place for young people on Friday evenings.

Sexting
If you have concerns that a child or young person may be receiving or even sending indecent images on their
mobile phone, you should talk to them about the consequences of their actions.
Make them aware that once the image has been sent, they have lost control of
that image and anyone can potentially have a look at it.

Sports Leader Training

This is a
multisport day suitable for adults and young people aged at least 15 years of
age. It's a good first-step training day for people looking to start-off in
sports coaching but also useful for more established leaders looking to refine
their sports delivery skills/knowledge with primary aged children.

Nominations are open for the
2009 Crawley
Youth Awards. The awards look to celebrate the achievements of young people
aged 25 and under. There are 12 awards within four categories; Community, Arts,
Sports and Personal Achievement. If you know of any young person who
deserves an award or would like more information please contact Kathryn Ripley or download a form here. The closing date for
applications is 2 October with the ceremony taking place at the Hawth Theatre
on 26 November.

Sussex Clubs for Young People (SCYP) is
holding an evening of Fishing at Passies Pond near Lancing on Wednesday 23
September, 6.15 pm
- 7.45 pm.
Places are
limited to 15 young people and the cost is £6 per person.
This event

The Annual Sussex Sports Awards is being held at the
Hilton Metropole, Brighton on Friday 13 November 2009 and will be hosted by Olympic Medallist, ex GB Swimming Captain and BBC
Sports Broadcaster, Steve Parry.
Nominations for the awards will open on Thursday
13 September 2009 so please take the time to nominate your team
mates, volunteers, coaches, colleagues, club and those un-sung heroes all
involved in making sport happen across Mid Sussex.

Aged between 14 and 20? Try your hand at WORTHING YOUTH THEATRE'sVideo Challenge at The Rosie on Saturday 26
September from 2pm-6pm. Groups will
create a short animation or in-camera edited video within two hours. All of the
films will be screened at the end of the day, with a prize for the best one. We
will also be screening our films from last year's First Light Movies projects
(a zombie film, a drama and an animated comedy).
